The Club has to advise the membership that Adele Edwards passed away peacefully in the early hours of 28th January surrounded by her family. As many members will already know Adele Edwards was a local dressage rider from Stafford who suffered from a particularly aggressive form of cancer. She spent the last year making the most of her horse while she could, and set up the Adele’s Princess Wish Foundation to help a young, local, pony mad girl with a brain tumor to fund equipment, medical care, travel and treatments.
Adele’s dearest wish was that this charity would also be able to help other young children with cancer by making ongoing donations.
Wrekin North Riding Club, who have been helping Adele with the Foundation, have set up a fundraiser page with GoFundMe and all money raised through this will go directly to Adele’s Princess Wish. There isn’t much out there about the charity as yet since sadly Adele was very unwell but hopefully, and with a big effort, we can help by getting it up and running in her memory.
In addition the Club had a very successful day at Hilton Park Arena, near Wolverhampton on 19 January raising money for Adele’s Princess Wish. The day which included showjumping classes, a delicious cake sale and a raffle featuring superb prizes donated by local businesses, raised an amazing £1200 which will shortly be galloping over to Adele’s wonderful charity!
The showjumping classes had a huge turn out and went on all day unlike the cakes donated by the committee and volunteers which were sold out by 1 pm!
Adele Edwards herself brought her beautiful bay dressage horse High Offley Crocodile Rock (or ‘Rocky’ for short) for a final showjumping round accompanied by Elton John’s Crocodile Rock playing over the tannoy,
Showing her real riders grit and determination, and despite quite a few tears from many of us, she steered Rocky to a truly inspiring clear round and first place, and was presented with the sash and first place rosette by the clubs showjumping judge, Sarah Childs.
As a dressage specialist Adele had not “been in the air” for some years and all we spectators were massively inspired by her tremendous bravery and determination which will stay in our memory forever.
Members and non-members alike had a great time jumping indoors and raising money on an otherwise foggy and cold day.
The GoFundMe page set up by Sally Howse, the Club’s vice Chair, to raise money for the people who could not attend is still active and has so far raised £165 . If you would like to assist further the following donation link opens in a separate tab

A promise that was made to Adele and a charity, that at the time, had no name, but so much meaning, is a promise kept! 💖
With time, this charity was named Adeles Princess Wish. A charity trust fund for Grace, a young girl bravely battling a brain tumour. Grace has battled courageously, and still continues to, making the most of every day with her life and her ponies. This fund will help Grace and her family with anything she requires, and in the future may help other children in similar circumstances. For now, she will always be Adele’s Princess.
For those of you that didn‘t know Adele, words do not suffice in explaining her or her journey. Following a terminal diagnosis post reoccurence of ovarian cancer, Adele bravely claimed “You’ve got two choices; give up or give it all you’ve got, and that’s what I’m doing“. Adele‘s achievements were endless. She sold out of tickets for her Dressage To Music Extravaganza faster than Glastonbury, took the champion sash at the Rodbaston Dressage Summer Championships, and took her beautiful gelding Rocky showjumping to raise money for her charity, just to name a few. Sadly, Adele lost her fight on 28th January 2020, just a day before her 50th birthday.
Unsure of what to do, I could only take inspiration from those around me. In memory of Adele, and to raise funds for her legacy trust, I will be walking the equivalent of a marathon (26.2 miles) on 28th March in Aberystwyth. This will likely push me to my physical limit, rumbling the ‘badly behaved body’, but even if I ‘kick the final bar’ on crutches, it shall be done! The struggles that we face, will only be a small chip of what Adele faced with such bravery, determination and tenacity.
Adele’s zest for life and smile were infectious. Her beautiful personality and smile will be sorely missed by many.

10 year old Isabel is a pupil of Adele's sister Leanne Jackson and when Leanne lost Adele last year, Isabel was moved by the charity and so set off growing her hair to get it cut off in the summer of 2020 for Adele's Princess Wish and Little Princess Trust. with Covid Isabel had no choice but to postpone the cut and at a Halloween pony fun show she lost her locks to a very scary looking hairdresser,
Isabel raised over £1000 for the charities.
